Dear Doubting Thomas,

Valentine’s Day
arrives a week hence,
should this correspondence
find you swiftly. I might
have prefaced this
by noting how little I
care for the pomp-
and circumstance, or from
which Vicar of Christ this
accursed tradition began.
It is a service
for social function,
of which you’re well aware,
I’m certain, to make
able preparations
for the attendees; thus,
may I count you
among the present?

Secretly yours.
Madame X.

~post script
Per the fashion of the
clandestine, I suggest
arriving after
the announcements, so as
to avoid the
copulent throng.
