At The Drive-thru

lined with decorative
shrubbery
in white blossom
suggesting
manicured
optimism
cropped grass
polluted with exhaust
from idling
vehicles

unimaginative
consumers
stare
at advert signage
titillated
by
the value menu

see them muscle in
and jockey through
the ordering procedure
selling their animal hunger
primal need for better
quality
addiction

I bought an Iced Coffee
from the passenger seat
and
thought myself
too cool to
go inside
with the other
potato-people
